Student Groups

Joining a student organization at VCU can help you meet other students who have similar interests and assist you in gaining skills that will be useful outside of college.

Commonwealth International Relations Organization

The Commonwealth International Relations Organization (CIRO) is a student organization where those studying (or otherwise interested in) political science, government, and international affairs can gather to discuss global topics and connect with one another. We also host VCU's Model United Nations team, where individuals represent nations in simulations of the UN and other regional international bodies. CIRO offers a fantastic opportunity for those interested in developing their public speaking, research, and leadership skills while working with like-minded students and faculty members!

Political Science Alliance Club

The VCU Political Science Alliance Club is a student organization bringing together passionate students to explore, engage, and impact the world of politics and policy. We provide students with a centralized space to deepen their understanding of political science topics and make meaningful connections within the Political Science Department. The organization actively engages political science majors and minors in the professional field, local community, and campus through a wide range of activities, including thought-provoking discussions, guest lectures by experts, networking events, community service projects, and more.

To get involved, email vcupsac@gmail.com, look them up on RamsConnect, or contact them on Instagram.

POLI Student Ambassadors

The Political Science Department launched the POLI Student Ambassador program in 2024 to serve as a vital link between our faculty, staff and students. Our ambassadors share a passion for the major and contribute their unique perspectives, insights, and talents to meaningfully enhance POLI student life and help the department serve the student body.

POLI Student Ambassadors (PSAs):

  • represent the department in a variety of settings

  • interact with students, alumni, and guests, and showcase their experiences as majors

  • organize and participate in events to build community and grow connections among our POLI majors and minors

The PSA program also offers leadership and networking opportunities for our ambassadors that complement their academic and professional goals and deepen their sense of purpose and connection.

If you’re interested in becoming a PSA, fill out an application! Candidates should be reliable, outgoing, and capable of balancing program responsibilities with their academic and personal lives.
