VCU Political Science wins awards, presents papers at Virginia Social Science Association meeting

VCU Political Science was well represented at the April 2016 meeting of the Virginia Social Science Association. Emeritus Professor Nelson Wikstrom was presented with the Mario D. Zamora Distinguished Service Award. VCU POLI alum Charlie Turner won the Henry J. Abraham award for best paper delivered by a graduate student. POLI Professor Chris Saladino chaired two panels, and VCU students Michael Saoma, Geril Garcia, Samantha Catron, James Wells, and Regina Hamilton presented papers, along with multiple presentations from Professor Allie Reckendorf’s campaigns and elections course (drawing on their intersession field work in New Hampshire): A’Jee Delaigle on “Challenging Tradition: The Limits of New Hampshire’s ‘First in the Nation’ Primary”; Ivette Huertas, Paula Olugbemi, and Melika Zand on “Social Media and the Millennial Vote”; Laura Bryant, Skevi Kambitis, and Jimmy Nguyen on “Logic and Emotions in American Presidential Campaigns”; Micah Davenport on “Political Branding: Are Voters Buying What the Candidates are Selling?”; and Jessica Diaz on “How Volunteers Contribute to Effective Get Out The Vote Efforts.” Bravo to all!
